A Legacy of Caring
In 1997, Preferred Medical was born with a simple yet powerful mission: to help workers’ compensation payers provide clinically appropriate, cost-effective ancillary care services to recovering employees. Little did we know then that this commitment would touch the lives of thousands of claims professionals and the employees they support.
What began as a focused mission soon evolved into a comprehensive suite of services, shaped by our clients' emerging challenges and changing healthcare landscape. In 1998, we expanded into pharmacy benefit management, becoming pioneers in addressing one of workers' compensation's most pressing issues: the responsible management of opioid medications.
Our commitment to excellence and diversity was formally recognized in 2007 when Preferred Medical achieved certification as a Women's Business Enterprise. This milestone reflected not just our growth, but our dedication to bringing diverse perspectives to the workers' compensation industry.
Our mantra is simple: Listen. Respond. Deliver.
In 2022, we deepened our commitment to supporting injured workers with a landmark partnership with WorkCompCollege.com that enrolls our team members in their Workers' Recovery Professional (WRP) Certification program.
Through this comprehensive education initiative, every employee receives specialized training to understand the complete workers' compensation process – from the legal and clinical aspects to the financial influences that impact care decisions. This investment in our people reflects our enduring belief: that treating the whole person – not just the injury – leads to better outcomes for everyone involved.
We understand that behind every claim number, every medical decision, and every bill reviewed is a person – just like you and me – and a family impacted by a workplace injury.
We’re not just managing claims, we’re supporting real people on their journey to recovery. This human-centric approach has been our north star for more than two decades, guiding us in our mission to make it easier for our customers to manage care for injured employees.
Looking to the Future, Rooted in Our Values
As we continue to grow and evolve, our founding principles remain unchanged. We’re still that same company that
started with a vision to make a difference in people’s lives. Today, we’re more committed than ever to support claims
professionals, champion injured workers, and simplify the complex world of workers’ compensation.
